Town centre pub, little altered in 50yrs. Originally a coaching inn, which was erected in 1862. The gantry in the bar is is at least 100yrs old.
The bar still has an original working bell-box for the pub. Upstairs the pub divides into two rooms, the quiet room which was said to be the first cocktail lounge in Stranraer is now the ladies powder room, on the other side is the lounge and snug room which has been refurbished with the 1940's style of the pub.
The bar is now listed in CAMRA & has just recently brought in real ale on draught. The gantry is well stocked with over 40 malt whiskies one for each region in Scotland.
12 blended whiskies, 9 rums, 6 vodkas, 5 gins & various other liqueurs & spirits.
The present owners Billy & Sally are only the 5th in line since the pub was built. The bar has a warm, friendly & welcoming atmosphere & have had visits from people from various parts of the world. So if you are ever in Stranraer give The Grapes a visit it is one you won't regret.
